I was 18 when I purchased a Fender Stratocaster USA Standard using the first instalment of my student loan. Who needs books, eh?! Why is it my icon? This is a beautiful guitar, sleek, sexy and very comfortable to play. All the legends of rock have owned a Fender Stratocaster including guitar gods Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. The ‘Strat' was my first proper electric guitar and I've kept it for 10 years! It's the most versatile of all the modern pop guitars and looks great. It hasn't changed much since it was first popular in the 50's, 60's and 70's. The more retro the better with this guitar!
